How Ohio drivers got some relief from the rising cost of gas over time
Last month brought another historic increase in inflation.
The consumer price index jumped 9.1 percent between June 2021 and June 2022, meaning Americans are paying more for food, clothing, home goods, and more.
Ohio families and small businesses are suffering under the strain. More than 100 restaurants have closed because of inflation and labor shortages. Food banks are experiencing surging demand because families cannot afford basic needs.

And, of course, the rising cost of gas over time has not helped.
The cost of gas in 2022 has increased rapidly. To help alleviate the pain, Americans for Prosperity-Ohio lowered the price of gasoline at three gas stations in the state — one in Toledo, one in Lowellville, and another in Steubenville.
These events were part of a whirlwind week where the state team held six True Cost of Washington Tour events in four days (See Kent Strang’s entries from July 6-9 for more details and interviews with everyday Ohioans).
The other three events were in Blue Ash, Bowling Green, and Youngstown. In Blue Ash the AFP-Ohio team offered discounted gas, but in the other locations they offered free food – gyros and wings, respectively.
Needless to say, whether they were rolling back the cost of gas or food, the events were a hit.
AFP-Ohio helps reduce burden of cost of gas over time
Just like it has nationwide, the cost of gas in 2022 has risen substantially in Ohio. As of mid-July, drivers were paying nearly $4.50 a gallon.
At the event in Toledo, more than 175 drivers were able to pay $2.38 per gallon — the price for a gallon of gas the day before President Joe Biden took office. Cars were lined up well before the event kicked off and extended for blocks.

Here’s the line for gas in Toledo Ohio 30 minutes before we are set to get started with $2.38/gallon gasoline. More than 60 cars already in line!

The same thing happened in Youngstown. Resident Theresa Woodbridge told WKBN-27,
“It’s a blessing because everybody out there is on hard times now. They can’t pay all their bills or get groceries or anything.”
More than 200 drivers filled up at a reduced price at the Steubenville event. And, again, customers were overwhelmed.
One Steubenville resident told WTRF-TV that seeing the price listed at $2.38 “was better than Christmas morning.” Another thought the sign advertising the pre-Biden administration price was fake.
Congressman Ron Ferguson (R-Ohio) was in Steubenville with AFP-Ohio. “People are excited to pay $2.38 per gallon,” Rep. Ferguson told WTOV-9.
“They’re not looking to pay $5 a gallon anymore, so that’s why you see the line wrapped around the block here in Steubenville. That’s what we need to see a lot more, we need to see these low prices. And the only way to do that is for America to be energy independent again.”

America needs affordable energy solutions, not tax hikes
At a time when Americans already are straining to pay the cost of gas in 2022, the Biden administration wants to raise taxes on U.S. small businesses and families.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y), Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), and White House officials are reportedly close to an agreement that would raise individual, corporate, and small business taxes at a time when all Americans are struggling to pay their bills.
Instead of tax increases, Americans want affordable energy solutions.

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Ohio) joined AFP-Ohio in Toledo. With horns honking wildly in the background, the congressman explained the rising cost of gas over time is because of policies in Washington.
“We could be doing more in this country to make sure this doesn’t happen.” Latta said. The congressman said President Biden should revive the Keystone XL Pipeline, approve leases for energy exploration on federal lands, and expand offshore drilling.
