AFP Proud to Provide Support Advancing TikTok Legislation to President’s Desk

Washington, DC – AFP’s Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner made the following statement about the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act that the President signed into law today:

“Chinese government control of TikTok is an urgent threat to Americans’ security and our grassroots network was proud to provide early outside support to advance this legislation to the President’s desk. There is real and mounting evidence that hundreds of millions of Americans’ phones are being weaponized against them by the Chinese government, and we cannot sit back and allow the Chinese government to use TikTok to censor and manipulate American citizens.

“We applaud Congress for passing a bill that will protect Americans and preserve freedom with closely tailored provisions that avoid unnecessary repercussions for tech platforms. While it was part of a mixed package that was far from perfect, this legislation is something Republicans and Democrats should consider a huge win for our national security.”
