AFP Applauds House for Resounding Bipartisan Vote to Protect Americans from Foreign Adversary Control of TikTok

Arlington, VA – Americans for Prosperity Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner issued the following statement applauding the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act with a huge bipartisan mandate to get this legislation to President Biden’s desk and signed into law.

“It’s not often these days – let alone an election year – that you see substantive legislation bring such a significant bipartisan majority together, and we applaud Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-PA) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) for recognizing this mounting threat and advancing a bill that will protect Americans and preserve our freedom.

“As we said last week, we would never want the U.S. federal government to have the power to censor, surveil, and manipulate Americans – we absolutely cannot permit that abuse of power by the Chinese government through TikTok. The House legislation is a targeted response to a legitimate national security threat, and we strongly urge the U.S. Senate to swiftly pass this legislation and get it to President Biden’s desk.”
