Tax Relief Package is Wrong Approach for Nebraska

LINCOLN, NE – Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska (AFP-NE) on Wednesday urged legislators to reject a so called “tax relief” package that would significantly increase spending in future years and enact corporate welfare that picks winners and losers in the marketplace.

Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska State Director Jessica Shelburn issued the following statement:

“In times of fiscal uncertainty, the last thing we should do is pass legislation that will hamstring future budgets and create even more tax issues for Nebraskans. Not only does this bill put our state on a path of fiscal insolvency, it enacts a corporate welfare scheme that takes us farther away from a pro-growth tax code that benefits every business, rather than a select few. Senators need to reject this bill and focus on comprehensive tax reform that will establish a tax environment where corporate welfare won’t be needed to attract businesses to our state rather than pushing through legislation at the last minute.”

Background:

AFP-NE has been at the forefront of advocating for tax reform. Recently, AFP-NE highlighted a former Nebraskan who moved his farming operation to another state due to Nebraska’s broken tax code and high property taxes.
