Jackson, MS – Americans for Prosperity – Mississippi (AFP-MS) is greatly disappointed by the state legislature’s failure to hold a hearing and pass HB 1435, a step toward advancing school choice. By continually failing to pass overdue school choice reform, the legislature has let down Mississippi families far too many times. Open enrollment and school choice are pivotal parts of AFP-MS’ 601 Blueprint legislative priorities, making this setback especially disappointing.
AFP-MS State Director, Starla Brown, released the following statement:
“Education freedom in Mississippi is long overdue. It should not be controversial to empower students to attend schools that best fit their individual needs. Once again, the Senate Education Committee Chairman, several Members, and Lt. Governor did not step up to deliver Mississippi families the choices in education they are seeking. Americans for Prosperity – Mississippi remains committed to championing education freedom in our state and looks to see through SB 2618 this session because our students are more important than systems and we must do better for them.”
