Grassroots group urges Senator Klobuchar to work across the aisle and help pass bipartisan criminal justice reform measure

BURNSVILLE, MN – Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota (AFP-MN) today applauded Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) for co-sponsoring the FIRST STEP Act, legislation that will reduce crime and recidivism and make federal sentencing laws more just. Americans for Prosperity has been at the forefront of supporting the FIRST STEP Act. Earlier this year, the grassroots group issued a Key Vote Alert calling on Representatives to vote ‘YES’ on the legislation.

“Americans are looking for politicians to break the cycle of partisan politics and come together to pass legislation that helps improve people’s lives. We applaud Senator Klobuchar for co-sponsoring the FIRST STEP Act, which will strengthen public safety and help Minnesotans who’ve earned a second chance. Senator Klobuchar has a great opportunity to work across party lines and help get this legislation passed in the Senate,” said AFP-MN State Director, Jason Flohrs. “We are committed to working with Senator Klobuchar and building the broad policy coalitions to make this policy a reality.”

Background:

President Trump, senators from both parties, and major law enforcement groups like the Fraternal Order of Police all endorsed the FIRST STEP Act last week.

The House of Representatives passed the FIRST STEP Act earlier this year.
