AFP on Biden Administration Resuming Oil and Gas Leases on Public Lands

Apr 15, 2022 by AFP

Arlington, Va. – Today, the Biden administration announced that it will resume selling leases for new oil and gas drilling on public lands, though it will reduce the amount of land available and will increase the royalty it charges companies for the oil and gas produced on the land.

“The president’s failed and illegal ban on oil and gas leases helped drive up energy costs, but this announcement is merely a half-hearted attempt to walk it back,” said Abigale Tardif, regulatory analyst at Americans for Prosperity. “If the president is truly interested in reducing energy prices and easing pain at the pump, we’ve identified 24 other steps he can take. We would be happy to work with the White House and anyone else who shares our goal of unleashing energy abundance.”

Unleashing energy abundance is a key element of AFP’s plan to fight inflation and make life more affordable for everyday Americans who are suffering from today’s higher cost of living. Read more about the plan here and learn more about AFP’s new campaign, “The True Cost of Washington” here.
