LINCOLN, NE – Americans for Prosperity – Nebraska (AFP-NE) today thanked lawmakers for stopping attempts to raise taxes and vowed to keep fighting against tax increases as the state legislature heads into a special session this summer.
The defeat came after polling by AFP-NE showed the tax scheme’s deep unpopularity with Nebraskans, who would pay record amounts in new taxes if the legislation passed.
AFP-NE state director, John Gage, gave the following statement:
“Thank you to the legislators who had the courage to say ‘no’ to increasing taxes this session. Heading into a potential special session, the consensus is clear — Nebraskans want property tax relief, but they do not want a tax shift to pay for it.
“Legislators should look to continue finding ways to prudently cut and limit spending on all levels of government as the basis for real and lasting property tax relief.”
