Missouri Supreme Court Upholds Medicaid Expansion, Jeopardizes State’s Fiscal Health

Jul 22, 2021 by AFP

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Americans for Prosperity-Missouri (AFP-MO) released a statement following the Missouri Supreme Court ruling on the constitutionality of Medicaid expansion.

“Today, the Missouri Supreme Court gutted Article III, Section 51, and now risks the long-term fiscal health of our state,” said AFP-MO State Director Jeremy Cady. “By overturning previous decisions that protected appropriation authority, Missouri’s Supreme Court has failed Missourians. Missouri’s neediest will now face reduced access to care with the legislature stripped of its appropriation authority. Missouri taxpayers now face potential cuts to education or a tax increase to cover these new costs.”

Background:

In May, AFP-MO thanked Governor Parson for protecting Missouri taxpayers.
