Biden’s Drug Price Controls Will Reduce Virginians’ Access To New Cures
RICHMOND, VA—Today, Americans for Prosperity-Virginia (AFP-VA) released a statement in response to President Biden’s speech in Culpeper, Virginia that urged Congress to impose draconian drug price controls on new medicines.
“Price controls would eliminate new cures, stifle the discovery of new breakthrough medications and treatments, and lead to drug shortages,” said State Director for Americans for Prosperity-Virginia, JC Hernandez. “Contrary to the president, prescription drug prices, on average, haven’t been going up thanks to the availability of more generic drugs. While more can be done to address certain high-cost drugs, the way to do that is not through price fixing, but rather by encouraging more innovation and competition in the market. Virginia’s leaders in Congress should reject the president’s price controls plan and instead support a personal option for health care that gives Americans more access to affordable medicines without putting the government in control of our medicine cabinets.”
