Win of the Week: South Carolina’s Gov. McMaster Signs AFP-Backed Education Freedom Law

May 29, 2018 by AFP

What it is: Earlier this week, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster signed H. 4077, a bipartisan educational opportunity bill, into law. The legislation makes the Exceptional SC scholarship program for special needs students permanent and grants the program an additional $1 million in funding.

Why it’s important: The Exceptional SC program has a proven track record of success in providing educational opportunities for special needs students and their families. The program has been in place for 5 years as a temporary measure, but now families have certainty that this program is an important part of state law.

The grassroots impact: AFP-South Carolina activists have worked tirelessly by encouraging fellow South Carolinians to contact their legislators and support educational opportunity for all Palmetto State students.

Prosperity produced: All children deserve a learning environment that works best for them and their individual learning needs. This important legislation will ensure that South Carolina students with special needs have the same access to a quality education as their peers.

But that’s not all! Even more prosperity was created in Missouri this week…

  • AFP-Backed Bill Bolstering Worker Freedom Passes Missouri Senate:
Americans for Prosperity-Missouri applauded the Missouri Senate’s passage of HB 1413, a bill that will expand worker freedom in the Show Me State. The bill will require an employee’s consent before labor unions can use dues and fees for political purposes, require unions to hold recertification elections every three years and eliminate “evergreen clauses” in negotiations. Now that’s a win for worker freedom!

Keep an eye out for next week’s win from Americans for Prosperity!
