COLUMBIA, SC – Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) today commended the Senate for passing S 506, a bill that expands the opportunity for home-based food production and direct-to-consumers sales.
AFP-SC Director of Grassroots Operations Candace Carroll released the following statement:
“Senators took a needed step to free our food, removing an unnecessary barrier preventing South Carolinians from selling homemade goods. This common-sense bill empowers entrepreneurs and small businesses who have suffered the past year due to the economic effects of COVID-19. We thank the Senate for supporting this bill and urge the House to swiftly send the bill to the governor’s desk.
Background:
States with the most comprehensive food freedom bills, Wyoming, North Dakota, and Utah, have reported no foodborne illness from a business operating under these laws.
