Confirming Kavanaugh: Spotlight on AFP-IN Volunteer Lisa Morris

Aug 30, 2018 by AFP
When Lisa Morris began volunteering with AFP-IN, flip phones were in style. In the years since — she figures six or seven have gone by — technology has evolved. Her commitment to fighting for a brighter future, however, has remained.
“I want my grandkids to have the same opportunities that I had,” the Sellersburg resident said. “I really want to get back to a governance that is fair and gives opportunity for all.”
A big key to doing so, Morris said, is confirming a fair and qualified judge to the U.S. Supreme Court. That’s why she has participated in phonebanks and door-knocking events — even canvassing on her own — in support of nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
“I love the fact that he interprets law by the Constitution and not by his feelings,” she said of Judge Kavanaugh. “We have many judges who take matters personally, as opposed to following the Constitution.”
Taking part in so many events in support of Kavanaugh has introduced her to many people. One of Morris’s favorite moments was with a person in her own neighborhood when she was canvassing.
“I spent maybe 30 minutes talking with this woman because she just wanted to know more and more and more,” Morris said. “Finally, she got to the point where I was like, ‘You know what, I’m going to have to come back and talk to you because I don’t know the answer to that.’ It’s been great, being able to engage with people like that.”
