Biden administration cutting Medicare benefits for seniors

Arlington, Va. – The Biden administration’s Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced deep cuts to health care benefits for seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans.

Medicare Advantage plans are extremely affordable – average premiums for such plans last year were $18 per month. Medicare Advantage also offers benefits that traditional Medicare doesn’t, such as routine dental, vision, and hearing care.

President Biden touts his efforts to reduce health care costs, but his actions show otherwise. These benefit cuts are an abomination and will make health care more expensive for tens of millions of seniors – many of whom live on fixed incomes and depend on affordable health care.

At a time when seniors are struggling with higher costs due to inflation, cutting their benefits is an unwarranted and harmful blow.

“More than half of seniors choose Medicare Advantage over traditional Medicare because it’s higher quality and more affordable coverage,” said Dean Clancy, senior health policy fellow at Americans for Prosperity. “While President Biden talks a big game about lowering health care costs and protecting Medicare, his actions and polices don’t match up with reality. Instead of cutting benefits, the president and his administration should be empowering more seniors with a personal option in health care that makes it easier to choose the plan that’s best for them. For the majority of eligible seniors, that choice is Medicare Advantage.”
