CHEYENNE, WY – Today, Americans for Prosperity – Wyoming (AFP-WY) celebrates the passage of HB 166 in the Wyoming House of Representatives, a landmark bill in Wyoming’s fight for education freedom that will create education savings accounts (ESAs) for eligible students across the state.
AFP-WY State Director, Tyler Lindholm, made the following statement:
“No child in Wyoming should have their educational opportunities determined by their zip code or economic background. We’re grateful for the House of Representatives – especially for House Speaker Albert Sommers and Reps. Ocean Andrew, Ken Clouston, Barry Crago, and Martha Lawley – for taking this important step toward empowering students over systems.
“The Senate and governor should waste no time in making education savings accounts a reality so that every student can have access to the best educational opportunities our great state has to offer.”
Background:
HB 166 will create an ESA fund that would give up to $5,000 to families based on their income to spend on tuition at eligible schools, tutoring, curricula, and many other educational goods and services that will help serve students’ specific needs.
Leading up to the 2024 legislative session, AFP-WY mobilized its grassroots activists to encourage lawmakers to pass this critical legislation and continue expanding options for Wyoming students.
