RICHMOND, VA – Yesterday, the Floyd County Circuit Court ruled that the repeal of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is null and void.
Americans for Prosperity-Virginia (AFP-VA) State Director Tim Parrish released a statement upon the decision:
“We applaud Governor Youngkin for his bold leadership and principled decision to remove Virginia from the Regional Gas and Greenhouse Initiative. His proactive decision was the right thing to do and was made in the best interest of Virginia and those who call the Commonwealth home.
“Virginians’ power bills are way too high because of reckless ideological groups driving radical and irresponsible energy policies. While we respect our institutions, Attorney General of Virginia Jason Miyares has made it clear that the Governor was clearly acting within the guidelines passed by the General Assembly to exit the unpopular Regional Gas and Greenhouse Initiative.
“RGGI is a cap and trade scheme exploiting rate payers to benefit politicians’ pet projects. Virginians – and Americans – deserve better and are sick of being unnecessarily overcharged to line the pockets of special interests.
“While this decision should be appealed, the General Assembly would be wise to act in January and more explicitly remove Virginians from this cap and trade scheme, which only raises Virginians’ power bills to benefit a political ideology that voters have rejected.”
“Virginians are sick and tired of being told what kind of cars to buy and being overcharged for their power bills. This madness has to stop. And we will fight this session to do just that.”
