Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina Announces Final Slate of State Legislative Endorsements

Raleigh, North Carolina—Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina (AFP-NC) today announced its endorsements of nine candidates running for the North Carolina State House and Senate in the general election on November 5, 2024.

AFP-NC will leverage the total weight of its grassroots capabilities behind the following candidates: State Sen. Buck Newton (SD-04), Ashlee Adams (SD-18), State Sen. Danny Britt (SD-24), Dana Caudill Jones (SD-31), State Sen. Paul Newton (SD-34), State Rep. Alan Branson (HD-59), State Rep. Dennis Riddell (HD-64), State Rep. Frank Sossamon(HD-32), and State Rep. Tricia Cotham (HD-105). These new names are in addition to candidates previously endorsed by AFP-NC in the primary election. The premier grassroots organization will mobilize its statewide network for door-to-door canvassing, digital ad campaigns, and direct mail to ensure these principled candidates are elected to represent North Carolinians come November.

AFP-NC State Director Tyler Voigt issued the following statement:

As the state’s premier grassroots organization, we are ready to leverage our capabilities to elect these candidates who promise to deliver on education opportunity, regulatory reform, and energy abundance come November.”

Background: 

State Sen. Buck Newton (SD-04) 

Sen. Buck Newton is a strong leader on crucial issues from energy abundance to education freedom. He’s sponsored legislation to enhance energy strategy and cosponsored high-priority legislation that made the popular Opportunity Scholarship program universal. In addition, he is a consistent ally on economic reforms and reducing the state income tax.

Ashlee Adams (SD-18) 

As a former nurse, Ashlee Adams has firsthand experience of the health care system and promises to be a critical voice on removing burdensome red tape such as Certificate of Need regulations. She will also play a key role in advancing school choice and parental rights in education by supporting Education Savings Accounts.

State Sen. Danny Britt (SD-24) 

Sen. Danny Britt is a strong and consistent leader on economic issues like lowering business and income taxes and cutting burdensome regulations. As Chair of the Judiciary Committee, he’s played a critical role in working across the aisle to achieve meaningful criminal justice reforms.

Dana Caudill Jones (SD-31) 

As Chair of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School Board and a small business owner, her unique experience positions her as an essential addition to the general assembly and key player on advancing education choice for students, cutting burdensome regulations for businesses, and expanding opportunity and freedom for all.

State Sen. Paul Newton (SD-34) 

Sen. Paul Newton has a strong record of supporting tax reforms, having sponsored legislation to lower income taxes and establish a taxpayers’ bill of rights. He is an essential leader on other initiatives such as regulatory reform and expanding education freedom for North Carolina students.

State Rep. Frank Sossamon (HD-32) 

Rep. Frank Sossamon made quite the impression as a freshman member in the General Assembly last year. Rep. Sossamon’s commitment to educational freedom, regulatory reform, and tax cuts were a welcomed new voice in Raleigh. Rep. Sossamon is a champion for limited government and individual liberties serving Granville and Vance counties with honor.

State Rep. Alan Branson (HD-59) 

Rep. Branson has already proven to be a key partner on many important issues. As a third-generation business owner, he knows that burdensome regulations, high taxes, and irresponsible spending hurt North Carolina’s economy, and he promises to tackle these issues and expand opportunity and prosperity.

State Rep. Dennis Riddell (HD-64) 

As Chair of the Regulatory Reform Committee and lead sponsor of the Regulatory Reform Act, Rep. Dennis Riddell is a vital leader on economic issues and reducing burdensome regulations so that businesses and workers have more opportunity. He consistently votes in favor of education opportunity and supports Education Savings Accounts.

State Rep. Tricia Cotham (HD-105) 

Serving as a Chairwoman on the influential Education Appropriations and Education- K-12 committees, Rep. Cotham played an integral role in ushering the Opportunity Scholarship expansion through the House. Rep. Cotham will continue to be a champion for lowering the tax burden for all families in North Carolina.

These candidates join Sen. Bobby Hanig (SD-01), Sen. Michael Lee (SD-07), Rep. Allen Chesser (HD-25), Mike Schietzelt (HD-35), Rep. Erin Paré (HD-37), Rep. Jarrod Lowery (HD-47), Cody Huneycutt (HD-67), and Rep. Jeff Zenger (HD-74) as AFP-NC endorsed candidates.
