Americans for Prosperity – Mississippi Responds to the Legislature’s Failure to Pass Certificate of Need Repeals

Jackson, MS – Americans for Prosperity – Mississippi (AFP-MS) condemns Chairman Hob Bryan for once again hindering progress on the partial repeal of Certificate of Need (CON) laws. This week, Chairman Bryan refused to hear good policy in HB 922 as sent over by the House. This bill would have partially repealed CON laws that stifle health care innovation and drive up taxpayer costs.

AFP-MS State Director, Starla Brown, released the following statement:

“Outdated CON laws are a roadblock for high-quality health care outcomes, innovation, and more affordable costs. We are deeply disappointed by Chairman Bryan for once again hindering our progress in making our health care more competitive, accessible, and affordable for Mississippians.

“Rather than advancing CON repeal sent by the House, Chairman Bryan created a bill that does not adequately address Mississippi’s onerous health care regulations that stifle our access to the personal option. We were confident that HB 922 would have again received bipartisan support and hold steadfast in our commitment to working alongside constituents and lawmakers to pass CON repeal laws in the future.”

Background

AFP-MS deployed grassroots activists to build support for CON repeal through door knocking, phone calls, and meeting with legislators. AFP-MS has also stood up online resources to end CON laws in Mississippi.
