Americans for Prosperity-New Mexico State Director Burly Cain issued the following statement:

“Governor Lujan-Grisham has taken great steps already to help New Mexicans during this public health emergency, but we should remove the government barriers and red tape that are impeding New Mexicans from accessing health care services. These policies will not only help reduce the burden of our state’s health care system during this crisis, but will benefit New Mexicans in any time.”

The letter identifies the following areas that will help increase health care access:

  • Lift regulatory barriers on telehealth and telemedicine for all patients, including those on public health programs such as Medicaid.
  • Waive scope of practice restrictions and supervision requirements for physicians’ assistants.
  • Lift licensing barriers to allow health care providers to work in New Mexico and deliver telehealth care, regardless of the state in which they are licensed and without a telemedicine certificate.
  • Renew all expired state-administered health licenses, permits, certifications, and registrations for the duration of the health emergency.
