ATLANTA, GA – Following Governor Kemp’s urging for the House to pass SB 233, Americans for Prosperity – Georgia (AFP-GA) is applauding the Governor and reiterating its support for the bill.
AFP-GA State Director Tony West released the following statement:
“We thank Governor Brian Kemp for his continued leadership and commitment to expand education freedom. We echo his calls and urge lawmakers in the House to quickly pass SB 233.
“As the Governor stated, ‘there are no more next years.’ AFP-GA has spoken directly with tens of thousands of Georgians who want their lawmakers to take action now and send the bill to Governor Kemp’s desk. We must empower parents with choices and give students opportunities to succeed.”
Background
Governor Kemp has been a leader in calling for education reform making it a priority in his State of the State address.
AFP-GA has been an influential leader in advocating for school choice and education reform, including leading an aggressive door-knocking and phone banking campaign directly engaging with tens of thousands Georgians over the past three months. As part of a six-figure campaign from AFP-GA to promote the Promise Scholarship, AFP-GA sponsored billboards in specific districts to raise awareness and show lawmakers how important education choice is to constituents.
Last November, AFP-GA hosted an Education Freedom Rally with school choice leader Dr. Corey DeAngelis and State Representative Todd Jones (R-District 25), the sponsor of SB 233, the Georgia Promise Scholarship Act, as well as having an op-ed published in the Forsyth County News highlighting how SB 233 would benefit students across the state.
