Americans for Prosperity – Georgia Applauds Governor Kemp Signing SB 354, Occupational Licensing Reform Bill

ATLANTA, GA – Following Governor Kemp signing SB 354 that reforms occupational licensing requirements, Americans for Prosperity – Georgia (AFP-GA) is applauding the Governor for removing bureaucratic red tape and expanding the number of family-supporting jobs.

AFP-GA State Director Tony West released the following statement:

“As Governor Kemp continues to sign legislation from the successful 2024 legislative session, we are grateful SB 354 was included in these bills. This bipartisan legislation not only reduces unnecessary occupational licensing burdens for blow-dry styling and makeup application services, but will also create jobs and opportunities for entrepreneurs.

“With Governor Kemp’s signature on these important bills, the 2024 legislative session continues to be a historic session for all Georgians that ensures the Peach State remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family. We look forward to continuing to partner with Governor Kemp and lawmakers next year to continue building from the successes of this year.”

SB 354 exempts blow-dry styling and makeup application services from licensure and utilizes best practices from states that have already safely exempted these services from licensure.

AFP-GA has been a leader in calling for reform to Georgia’s occupational licensing requirements. AFP-GA signed onto a coalition letter with four other organizations, including the Institute for Justice, the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, the Georgia Center for Opportunity, and the R Street Institute calling for lawmakers to support SB 354.

In January, Tony West was on The Shelley Wynter Show to discuss how SB 354 will decrease occupational licensing burdens. Last December, AFP-GA called on the Georgia General Assembly to follow the Senate Study Committee on Occupational Licensing ten recommendations that would foster economic growth, reduce bureaucratic regulations, and invite all Georgians to reignite their American Dream.
