DENVER – Today, Americans for Prosperity-Colorado (AFP-CO) issued the following statement following the passage of SB21-260 that will increase the cost of gas in the state, impacting drivers at the pump in all capacities in including personal driving, ridesharing services, and deliveries. The grassroots group plans to launch an accountability effort that includes this bill with a campaign to advocate for the passage of a measure to reduce the gas tax on the 2022 ballot.
AFP-CO State Director Jesse Mallory issued the following statement:
“We would like to thank those that voted “NO” to protect Coloradans from these tax increases disguised as fees. Regardless of what our elected officials decide to call this, it’s just another barrier to opportunity for those fighting to get back on their feet during the economic recovery,”
“We fully intend on holding elected officials accountable through robust grassroots efforts in each of their districts over the coming weeks. It’s our goal to ensure that constituents are fully aware of the fact that elected officials are required to seek their input in this process as well as how they can reverse this when we take this to the ballot in 2022 to give Colorado voters their say.”
Background:
Polling conducted by AFP-CO in February 2021 identified that constituents across the aisle are not supportive of this proposal.
