Americans for Prosperity-Colorado Kicks Off Accountability Campaign
Legislators in Key Districts Voted to Sidestep TABOR; Place More Financial Burdens on Colorado Families
DENVER – Today, Americans for Prosperity-Colorado (AFP-CO) announced the launch of the grassroots organization’s accountability campaign that focuses on Colorado legislators’ failure to involve constituents in the legislative process this past session. The focal point of the effort was the lawmakers’ decision to sidestep TABOR and pass an additional gas tax as a fee without taxpayer approval.
The first wave of the grassroots campaign will focus on three senate districts and one house district across the Denver area. Efforts will include robust, layered door-to-door and phone outreach supplemented by direct mail, digital and radio ads. The group calls for accountability to prevent more abuses of power and ensure lawmakers can’t ignore the voices of Coloradans in the future.

AFP-CO State Director Jesse Mallory issued the following statement:
“In the Centennial State, elected officials are required to seek taxpayer input before putting any tax or excessive fee increase into effect. The act of holding stakeholder meetings and public hearings for transparency is meaningless if you don’t listen to your constituents’ concerns. Sens. Winter, Priola, and Story and Rep. Gray deserve to be held accountable for advancing this fee that Coloradans repeatedly expressed they did not want.”
Background:
In February, AFP-CO conducted a poll on the proposed fee increase that revealed that Coloradans were largely opposed to paying additional fees for gasoline purchases, food deliveries, or ride-sharing services.
