AFP-Wyoming Makes Final Three Primary Endorsements for State Legislature, Including House Speaker Albert Sommers

Jul 12, 2024 by AFP

CHEYENNE, WY – Americans for Prosperity-Wyoming (AFP-WY), announced its official endorsement of Speaker of the State House of Representatives Albert Sommers in his campaign for Senate District (SD-14), State Senator Ed Cooper (SD-20), and State Rep. Martha Lawley (HD-27) in their bids for reelection. These three endorsements make a grand total of 17 candidates supported by AFP-WY for the August primary elections.

News of these latest endorsements first appeared in a Cowboy State Daily report this week, which emphasized AFP-WY’s commitment to supporting civil, principled candidates who will support the expansion of school choice, slashing burdensome regulations, and unleashing economic prosperity across the state.

As the state’s premier grassroots organization, AFP-WY will blanket the state in support of these candidates with door knocking, phone calls, digital advertisements and targeted mail campaigns to make sure they win next month.

AFP-WY State Director, Tyler Lindholm, gave the following statement:

“Our grassroots activists are eager to gather more support for these outstanding leaders who will fight for free market reforms, expand opportunities in education, and keep the Wyoming economy on the right track.

“By endorsing over a dozen candidates in this year’s primaries, we aim to help voters elect leadership to make Wyoming the freest state in the Union.”

Endorsed Candidates

Rep. Albert Sommers (SD-14): Sommers, Speaker of the Wyoming House of Representatives, is a trusted leader and a key ally in the effort to make school choice in Wyoming universal. AFP-WY is grateful for his support in expanding Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) and will work with him to advance other key reforms on energy permitting and land use in the coming legislative session.

Sen. Ed Cooper (SD-20): Cooper is a leading voice for energy independence in Wyoming. AFP-WY looks forward to partnering with him in cutting regulatory burdens, protecting ratepayers and increasing the electric grid’s reliability. Beyond energy, Cooper is a serious, limited government conservative who will work to cut red tape that stifles business and innovation.

Rep. Martha Lawley (HD-27): Lawley is a crucial leader on education issues in the state House, who backed last year’s ESA legislation and has written extensively on the value of choice, freedom, and opportunity in education. She has been a champion for small businesses in Wyoming in her work to create a less burdensome regulatory environment.
