MADISON, WI — Following tonight’s gubernatorial debate, Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin (AFP-WI) pointed to the clear differences between Tom Tiffany and David Crowley on affordability, taxes and accountability as Wisconsin voters consider who should lead the state for the next four years.
Crowley entered the debate with a record Wisconsin voters can judge for themselves. As Milwaukee County Executive, he backed an increase in the county sales tax from 0.5% to 0.9%, while the county property-tax levy increased in back-to-back budgets. Tonight, voters had an opportunity to hear his lackluster approach to those same questions of spending, taxes, and government accountability statewide.
AFP-WI State Director Megan Novak released the following statement:
“Tonight’s debate put some of the same questions we hear every day at voters’ doors directly in front of the candidates: What will it cost? Who is going to pay for it? And can taxpayers trust their government to actually deliver?
“David Crowley’s record in Milwaukee County is one of asking taxpayers for more while too many basic failures remain unresolved. Wisconsin families deserve better leadership at the state level that makes life more affordable, respects taxpayers, holds government accountable, and recognizes that the answer isn’t always more spending and more government.
“Tom Tiffany has spent more than a decade fighting for lower taxes, limited government and greater accountability, first in the Wisconsin Legislature and now in Congress. Those aren’t new campaign promises, they’re priorities he has carried throughout his public service. As AFP-WI approaches one million doors knocked statewide, we will keep making sure voters understand the record Tom Tiffany has built in public service and the priorities he would carry forward as governor.”
