Armed with New Study, AFP-VA Will Work With Lawmakers To Break Barriers Next Session
RICHMOND, Va. – Americans for Prosperity-Virginia (AFP-VA) spotlighted a new report showing that occupational licenses currently required by the Commonwealth for several jobs are unnecessary because, “they pose little risk to the public if left unregulated.” The report follows one of AFP-VA’s top legislative priorities in 2018, a bill that passed during the last legislative session that created a regulatory reduction pilot program requiring the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation and other departments to reduce regulations by 25 percent by July 1, 2021.
“Excessive licensing requirements hinder many Virginians from creating opportunity for themselves and our communities. We were pleased to have bipartisan support for legislation that is breaking down barriers to opportunity and allowing consumers greater access to needed services that improve their lives,” said AFP-VA State Director JC Hernandez. “We’re already seeing the benefits cutting burdensome red tape is having on the Commonwealth’s businesses. We look forward to building on this momentum and working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle in the next legislative session to get rid of burdensome regulation that keeps Virginians from thriving.”
