AUSTIN, TX— Today, Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) celebrated the start of National School Choice Week, as the state legislature works to pass Governor Greg Abbott’s landmark education savings account (ESA) bill.
As the state’s premier grassroots organization and a champion for Texas taxpayers, AFP-TX has fought on the ground in legislators’ districts and under the capitol dome for years to give every family a say in the type of education their tax dollars pay for.
AFP-TX State Director Genevieve Collins gave the following statement:
“We’re anticipating that this year’s National School Choice Week will be the last one in which Texas families don’t have complete education freedom and opportunity. We’re immensely grateful for the governor’s leadership and determination to make universal school choice a reality in the Lone Star State.
“For too long, teacher unions and special interests have held students back from their full potential with a one-size-fits-all approach to education. AFP-TX will continue working with lawmakers during this year’s legislative session to pass this transformative legislation into law and empower Texans with the ability to choose the best schooling options for their children. The moment is now and we are going to see universal school choice pass in Texas.”
Background:
In 2024, AFP-TX engaged in a record number of state legislative races, helping to unseat six anti-school choice Republican lawmakers and electing 21 outstanding candidates (15 percent) of the state legislature.
