AUSTIN, TX – Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) celebrated the victory of 21 of its endorsed candidates for the Texas Senate and House of Representatives, following a historic grassroots advocacy and voter ID effort across the state.
Adam Hinojosa, a non-incumbent, won his race for Senate District 27, after running an outstanding campaign as a champion for fiscal responsibility and comprehensive tax reform.
Joanne Shofner (HD-11), Katrina Pierson (HD-33), Alan Schoolcraft (HD-44), Hillary Hickland (HD-55), Pat Curry (HD-56), Helen Kirwin (HD-58), and Marc Lahood (HD-121) defeated incumbents to win their first term in the state House.
State Representatives Cody Harris (HD-08), Ellen Troxclair (HD-19), Janie Lopez (HD-37), Caroline Harris-Davila (HD-52), Ben Bumgarner (HD-63), Matt Shaheen (HD-66), Jeff Leach (HD-67), Dustin Burrows (HD-83), Candy Noble (HD-89), Morgan Meyer (HD-108), Angie Chen Button (HD-112), John Lujan (HD-118), and Mano DeAyala (HD-133) all won reelection.
From the beginning of the primary season in May, AFP-TX made over 850,000 voter contacts including more than 600,000 doors across the state in support of its endorsed candidates, including a record number of non-incumbents, to reshape the Texas state legislature with new liberty-oriented leaders. Our endorsed candidates now make up 15.3 percent of the Texas legislature.
AFP-TX State Director, Genevieve Collins, gave the following statement:
“Tonight’s victories are an exciting reshape of Texas and the Texas House of Representatives. The candidates matched their communities not just in values but also in policy. AFP and The LIBRE Initiative-Texas are proud to be a part of their victories.
“Our teams knocked on over 600,000 doors and make over 250,000 phone calls across the state to understand where communities are on the issues and ensure that better policy champions got elected to work on those issues. We are the grassroots army of Texas and proud to stand on principle and work to make better outcomes for every Texan a soon-to-be-realized reality.
“We know that with great risk, comes great reward. Our teams knew that endorsing so many non-incumbents and first-time candidates this year is risky, but we saw the enormous opportunity to pass landmark policy reforms in the next legislative term. Our organizations are going to be known for being as big and as bold as Texas, and we knew we could deliver.
“From education freedom to housing abundance, we’re confident that 89th Texas Legislature will deliver transformative solutions on the biggest issues facing Texans, and make sure that freedom is always bigger in Texas.”
