COLUMBUS, OH—Americans for Prosperity-Ohio (AFP-OH) today reaffirmed its opposition to House Bill 6, which would provide a corporate bailout slush fund for private companies, such as FirstEnergy Solutions, and leave Ohioans with a $325 million bill. As the committee considers a new version of the substitute bill today, it’s important to keep in mind that if this bill is successful, Ohio’s consumers and ratepayers will be required to ensure a profitable margin of revenue for the future buyers of FirstEnergy Solutions.
AFP-OH State Director Micah Derry issued the following statement:
“The newest version of Sub House Bill 6 mollifies some opponents, but does not change the nature of the bill. It is still a bailout for the soon-to-be owners of the two Ohio nuclear plants. In other words, a tailor-made suit for FirstEnergy Solutions that has been altered to have longer coattails.”
Background:
For the last few weeks, AFP-OH volunteers have phone banked, text banked, called their legislators, held forums, and educational events. Last week, AFP-OH launched a significant radio advertisement buy in the Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Columbus markets, alongside a robust direct mail and digital campaign.
