Dear Representative,
On behalf of Americans for Prosperity, I urge you to support Representative John James’ legislation, H. J. Res. 136 – providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Environmental Protection Agency relating to “Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for Model Years 2027 and Later Light-Duty and Medium-Duty Vehicles”.
For some time, the Biden-Harris Administration has spent their term forcing “green” mandates on the American people by hampering our energy productivity and dominance. High interest rates, escalating inflation, and out-of-control spending further exacerbate the livelihoods of Americans. To make matters worse, the Environmental Protection Agency is leading a de-facto ban on the internal combustion engine. Surely, if Americans were to adopt the electric vehicle broadly, they would do so if it met their needs. But that hasn’t happened. Only 9% of Americans are seriously considering buying an electric vehicle and 3 out of 4 Americans oppose regulations that would ban new gasoline, diesel, and hybrid cars.
While electric vehicles face the backlash of negative consumer sentiment, Biden’s EPA requires up to 56% of new cars and trucks sold in the U.S. to be electric by 2032, a mere 8 years away. Even more costly is the damage done to domestic car manufacturers by the Biden-Harris Administration’s obsession with unreliable, range-induced, over-priced electric vehicles. Before interest and taxes, Ford reported in April that they lost $4.7 billion on sales of 116,000 electric vehicles. General Motors lost $3.3 billion in 2022 on electric vehicles with continued losses of $2.5 billion in 2023. All “Big 3” automakers have also laid off thousands of workers in the disaster of the electric vehicle push.
Plainly stated, the EPA’s final rule seeks to regulate tailpipe emission standards for sedans, SUVs, and small trucks made between 2027 and 2032 as an attempt to indirectly mandate
something Congress and the American people never agreed to: a top-down, government-led electric vehicle transition. Additionally, the genius innovative spirit of this country should be left to lead the energy transition for consumers to decide what best meets their urban or rural transportation needs.
For these reasons, and on behalf of the millions of AFP grassroots activists across the country, I encourage your boss to support H. J. Res. 136, introduced by Representative John James of Michigan, to nullify the EPA’s final rule mandating electric vehicles on the American people. This vote will be recorded in our legislative scorecard.
