Bill that would legalize the sale and personal use of cannabis ensures larger focus on public safety,  grassroots group says

CONCORD, NH – Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today commended the House for passing House Bill 481, legislation that would legalize the personal use and sale of cannabis for Granite Staters over the age of 21. AFP-NH believes HB 481 will improve public safety by starting to eliminate the black market for cannabis and freeing up law enforcement to focus on protecting communities against more serious threats.

“We applaud New Hampshire lawmakers for taking an important step to enhance public safety by removing the black market for cannabis and allowing law enforcement to focus on more serious threats to communities. The House vote today takes us one step closer to an improved economy and criminal justice system that breaks barriers and protects Granite Staters,” said Ross Connolly, AFP-NH Deputy State Director. “This legislation is not perfect but keeps the burden of state interference low to ensure the effective establishment of a legalized market. We look forward to working with the Senate to continue improving this legislation.”

Background:

Recently, AFP-NH hosted a cannabis legalization debate where current and former representatives as well as spokespeople from AFP and the Marijuana Policy Project discussed the costs and benefits of legalizing, regulating, and taxing cannabis.
