AFP: New Mexico Leaders Must Abandon Paid Leave Mandates Once and For All

SANTA FE, NM—Americans for Prosperity-New Mexico (AFP-NM) is calling on state leaders to end their repeated attempts to impose costly paid leave mandates on businesses.

Following the defeat of HB 11 in the Senate Finance Committee, it is clear that New Mexicans reject this policy and the economic uncertainty it brings.

AFP-NM State Director Sarah Hetemi issued the following statement:

“New Mexico lawmakers must stop pushing these job-killing mandates and recognize the damage they do to our state’s economic future. As long as this remains an ongoing threat, businesses will think twice before investing or expanding here. New Mexico cannot afford another year of uncertainty on this issue.

“The defeat of HB 11 is a huge win for New Mexicans, but we must ensure it stays that way. We call on legislative leaders to abandon this policy once and for all and instead focus on real solutions that create jobs, attract investment, and empower workers.”

“AFP-NM’s victory was made possible by the power of grassroots advocacy along with the efforts of allied groups who stood with us in opposition to HB 11. We rallied a strong coalition of advocates from across New Mexico to testify against HB 11, demonstrating the overwhelming opposition to this burdensome mandate. Additionally, our targeted grassroots efforts—including thousands of calls, emails, and texts—mobilized New Mexicans to make their voices heard loud and clear.

“AFP-NM remains committed to fighting for policies that grow opportunities for New Mexicans rather than stifling them. We urge elected officials to respect the will of the people and move on from these harmful mandates.”
