JACKSON, MS—Following the passage of HB 848 in Mississippi’s State House, Americans for Prosperity – Mississippi (AFP-MS) is applauding the legislation and hopes to see the Senate pass the measure to roll back certain Certificate of Need laws in the state.
AFP-MS State Director, Starla Brown, released the following statement:
“We are grateful for Representative Lee Yancey’s (District 74) leadership on this critical issue and are glad to see this legislation pass in the House. For years, we have been fighting against unnecessary laws that have failed to reduce costs for Mississippians and limit access to health care.
“HB 848 is a promising step in the journey to eliminating certain Certificate of Need regulations in the Magnolia State so we can ensure patients have access to the care they need. AFP-MS urges the Senate to consider this legislation as it’s a good step in the right direction.”
Background
Repealing Certificate of Need laws in Mississippi has been a priority for AFP-MS this legislative session. AFP-MS recently highlighted the need for repealing these laws on its weekly radio show. Additionally, AFP-MS grassroots activists hosted a Day at the Capitol last month to advocate for health care reform.
