AFP-MS Applauds House Passage of HB 1453, Encourages Senate Action

JACKSON, MS—Following House passage of HB 1453, the “Investing in the Needs of Students to Prioritize, Impact, and Reform Education (INSPIRE) Act, Americans for Prosperity – Mississippi (AFP-MS) is applauding the legislation that will overhaul the current education funding formula and urging its passage in the Senate.

AFP-MS State Director Starla Brown released the following statement:

“We applaud Chairman Rob Roberson for championing this legislation to bring greater transparency to the education funding formula in Mississippi. The INSPIRE Act is a step in the right direction to ensure taxpayer dollars are being properly allocated while also giving local leaders the flexibility they need to meet individual student needs.

“This bill passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support and we encourage the Senate to quickly consider and pass it.”

Background

On March 6, 2024, the House passed HB 1453 by a vote of 95-13. The Senate passed its own version of a bill to tweak the Mississippi Adequate Education Program and adjust the funding formula.
