AFP-Missouri Statement on Governor Parson’s State of the State Address

Jan 26, 2024 by AFP

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Today, Americans for Prosperity – Missouri (AFP-MO) responded to Governor Mike Parson’s 2024 State of the State Address on Wednesday, calling on the governor and the state legislature to accomplish substantive reforms during this session.

AFP-MO State Director Jeremy Cady said the following:

“As Governor Parson enters his final year in office, Missourians should be thankful for his outstanding work in reducing the state’s debt, increasing its revenue, and slashing a fifth of its regulations. These are all signals that it’s time to cut Missouri’s income tax, and we hope that Parson can get it done.

“While we can celebrate the raises for teachers included in the state’s new education budget, there’s no reason why so much funding shouldn’t also include more educational freedom for students. As we observe National School Choice Week this week, AFP-MO and over 60 percent of Missouri families renew our calls for expanded educational options. It’s critical for our tax dollars to go toward empowering our students, not bloated bureaucracies.

“Our state representatives owe it to their constituents to stop wasting valuable hours of the legislative session with pointless infighting and get to work expanding freedom in 2024.”

AFP-MO released its 2023 legislative scorecard on Wednesday, celebrating 43 policy champions who demonstrated principled leadership in their work on forward-thinking reforms to help all Missourians live their version of the American Dream.
