Topeka, KS—Americans for Prosperity-Kansas (AFP-KS) is applauding the passage of HB 2088 which will set a 60-day deadline for local governments to approve or deny permit applications for single-family homes. With the implementation of HB 2088, housing development permits are automatically approved if no decision is made within this timeframe.
In a key vote alert to Members notifying them that HB 2088 will be included in its legislative scorecard, AFP-KS said the legislation is a common-sense reform to streamline permitting, lower housing costs, and strengthen Kansas’s economy. AFP-KS also testified in support of the legislation before committee Members.
AFP-KS Deputy State Director, Tanner Tempel, made the following statement:
“Economic progress and lowering bureaucratic costs in housing development in Kansas should be fast-tracked, which is why AFP-KS is glad to see HB 2088 garner support in the House early in the legislative session. With the passage of this bill, Kansans could see housing costs come down as the burden is lowered on developers, a thriving housing market to spur new investments, and Kansas become a more competitive and appealing environment for business and families.”
