AFP: Here’s Why We Cannot Support Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Nomination

Apr 1, 2022 by AFP

Ahead of next week’s U.S. Senate vote, Casey Mattox, Vice President for Legal and Judicial Strategy at Americans for Prosperity, issued the following statement:

“The Supreme Court is responsible for protecting the individual rights of all Americans and holding the other branches of government to their Constitutionally-defined responsibilities. When Congress does not make the policy decisions the Constitution empowers it to make, the judiciary — the least accountable branch — should not legislate from the bench instead. It is imperative that a judge, especially a lifetime appointee to the Supreme Court, understand this restraint on judicial power. This is why a judge’s judicial philosophy is the foremost qualification Senators must consider.

“Our review of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s record and statements raise concerns about the soundness of her judicial philosophy. Senators should not hesitate to consider that when voting on her confirmation. Americans for Prosperity cannot support her nomination.”
