ARLINGTON, VA—Americans for Prosperity commends Speaker Mike Johnson for restoring fiscal responsibility to emergency budgeting with his plan to offset aid to Israel with cuts elsewhere in the budget. AFP’s Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner made the following statement:

“Inflation caused by reckless government spending is one of the top concerns we hear about from Americans every day, and under President Biden, spending in Washington has spiraled and sent inflation soaring by more than 17%. We commend Speaker Johnson for restoring fiscal sanity to Congress’ emergency budgeting process by proposing a responsible path to provide aid to our friend and partner Israel.

“The House’s plan to offset crucial aid to Israel with some of the $80 billion windfall that President Biden handed the IRS last year shows the kind of fiscal discipline that Americans expect, and we are encouraged by this proposal to slow the spiral of debt, interest, and inflation that is crushing American families. These proposed offsets show that Congress can stand with our friends without worsening the high cost of living that families are facing here at home.”

Today, Americans for Prosperity joined Concerned Veterans for America and The LIBRE Initiative in sending Congress a letter of support for the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. Read the full letter here.
