DENVER, Colo. – Americans for Prosperity-Colorado (AFP-CO) criticized House members Friday after their vote to support HB19-1257, which would permanently allow the state to retain and spend all state revenues in excess of the constitutional limitation. Currently, under Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR), any surplus must be refunded to taxpayers. This year’s surplus that should go to taxpayers is more than $350 million.
AFP-CO State Director Jesse Mallory issued the following statement:
“This bill would gut our Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, one of Colorado’s most powerful tools against government overreach, and allow the government to take money that rightfully belongs to taxpayers. TABOR has been a main driver of our state’s impressive economic growth and passing this bill would endanger our state’s economic health.”
