ARLINGTON, Va. – Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips issued the following statement on the outcome of trade talks between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Group of 20 summit this weekend.
“The decision to pause the implementation of increased tariffs while negotiations continue is welcome news, and we are encouraged that President Trump and President Xi agree on the need to de-escalate a trade war that continues to take a toll on the world’s economies. It is also encouraging to see both countries agree to discuss ending harmful trade practices like IP theft and forced technology transfers.
“American businesses and consumers are breathing sighs of relief today, but economic growth will continue to be stifled as long as the current tariffs remain in place and the threat of more tariffs looms. We continue to urge President Trump and President Xi to remove all counterproductive barriers to trade and open new markets in a way that allows American businesses and entrepreneurs do what they do best – compete and win in the global economy.”
