Key Vote Alert: Vote Yes on H.R. 4790, Prioritizing Economic Growth Over Woke Policies Act

On behalf of Americans for Prosperity and the millions of activists we represent nationwide, I write to express our strong support for H.R. 4790, Prioritizing Economic Growth Over Woke Policies Act, now pending before the House. This package is essential to safeguarding the financial future of millions of hardworking Americans, particularly seniors, by ensuring their retirement savings are managed solely with their best interests in mind.
The Biden-Harris Administration, through a wide variety rulemaking and unofficial pressure campaigns, has promoted an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda that forces companies to put politics over American competitiveness. This approach threatens the retirement savings of millions of Americans, especially seniors who have worked hard for decades to build financial security and deserve the peace of mind that comes from knowing their savings are being managed responsibly.
We applaud the leadership and commitment demonstrated by the sponsors of these bills and encourage all Members of Congress to support the entire package:
- The Guiding Uniform and Responsible Disclosure Requirements and Information Limits (GUARDRAIL) Act, originally sponsored by Representative Bill Huizenga, would limit the ability of the Security and Exchange Commission to create politicized disclosure requirement for public companies. Government mandates should be in the service of well-functioning markets, not ideological agendas.
- Protecting Americans’ Retirement Savings from Politics Act, sponsored by Representative Brian Steil, strengthens corporate governance by preventing the proxy shareholder process from being hijacked by activists.
- The American Financial Institution Regulatory Sovereignty and Transparency (American FIRST) Act, sponsored by Representative Barry Loudermilk, reins in the regulatory authority of the Federal Reserve and other administrative agencies focused on banking and financial services. They would have additional reporting requirements about contacts with activist NGOs and international organizations trying to hobble American competitiveness.
- Businesses Over Activists Act, sponsored by Representative Ralph Norman, ensures that public companies remain focused on maximizing value for their shareholders, rather than being distracted by outside agendas via proxy fights for political messaging purposes.
As inflation and economic uncertainty continue to concern Americans, it is critical that American industry, and the retirement savings funded by their success, are not hobbled by political crusades promoting a radical agenda. The seniors who have spent their lives saving for retirement should not have their financial security jeopardized by politicized investment strategies. These bills provide the necessary safeguards to ensure that financial markets are protected from external pressures and focused on creating long term economic growth for the American people.
We strongly urge you to support H.R. 4790, the Prioritizing Economic Growth Over Woke Policies Act, as it comes before the House. This package is critical to protecting the retirement security of millions of Americans, particularly seniors, and advancing financial freedom for all.
