Little Rock, AR—Yesterday, Americans for Prosperity-Arkansas (AFP-AR) hosted a press conference and grocery giveaway event alongside House Majority Leader Howard Beaty, State Senator Jim Dotson (SD-34), State Representative David Ray (HD-69), Steve Goode of the Grocers and Retail Merchants Association, and Greg Kaza of Arkansas Policy Foundation.
Together, the lawmakers and coalition partners highlighted the importance of renewing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). The event followed AFP’s recent announcement of a $20 million nationwide campaign calling on Congress to protect prosperity and renew President Trump’s highly successful TCJA.

AFP-AR State Director, Ryan Norris said, “Americans are living with the worst inflation in over 40 years, and we are on a countdown to crisis as the tax cuts that we a part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed in 2017 are to expire at the end of 2025. On average the tax cuts represent about $1,500 that was kept by each family across this nation.”
House Majority Leader and State Representative Howard Beaty (HD-95) stated, “This is an issue that’s at the heart of what the Republican party and the Republican caucus in Arkansas represents. Right now, Arkansans are recovering and reeling from the effects of the economic policies out of D.C. and if we don’t extend these tax cuts then small businesses and households in Arkansas will suffer and we cannot allow that to happen. I applaud AFP for holding such an important meeting to discuss an issue that affects everyone’s wallet, pocketbook, and household.”
Seeing the impact of reckless spending in D.C. on consumers, Steve Goode of the Grocers and Retail Merchants Association added, “We do see at the retail level how this affects consumers today; they are cash strapped, they are struggling today to make ends meet. It’s never more evident than when you walk into one of our retail stores today and you see cashiers returning goods. If you ask the cashier why they’re returning goods they’ll simply say because the consumer didn’t have enough money.”
Sponsor of HCR 1002, urging the U.S. Congress to permanently extend the TCJA, and Member of Tax and Revenue Committee, State Rep. David Ray (HD-69), noted, “The Trump Tax Cuts were a landmark and historic tax relief piece of legislation that benefited millions upon millions of Americans around the country […] Thankfully in Arkansas we have a congressional delegation that supports extending the Trump Tax Cuts and is committed to seeing that through, but it’s important that states send a message.”
State Senator Jim Dotson (SD-34) and co-sponsor of HCR 1002 said, “I hope the Senate will pass this and send a strong message of unity from the state of Arkansas to D.C. that this is extremely important to get done.”
“Inflation is a tax on middle class Arkansans. Tax relief helps those Arkansas households deal with the ravages of inflation and the challenges they face every day,” concluded Greg Kaza, Executive Director of the Arkansas Policy Foundation.
