Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina Announces 8 New State Endorsements in Key Races

COLUMBIA, SC—Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) announced its support of eight new candidates to serve key House and Senate districts of the Palmetto State. AFP-SC has put the weight of its grassroots army behind more than a dozen candidates this cycle thus far seeing six primary race victories.

As part of the largest grassroots organization in the country, AFP-SC says it plans to leverage the full weight of its voter outreach capabilities, in addition to mail and digital campaigns, to support these candidates as well as those previously announced heading into the general.

AFP-SC State Director, Matt Humm, released the following statement:

“If we want South Carolina to be the freest state in the south, we need more conservative voices in office to empower parents, cut taxes and regulations, and unleash the free market to create growth and opportunity. Our grassroots army grows every day and we’re ready to continue our work throughout November to ensure the strongest candidates who hold South Carolina values are successful.

“AFP-SC is strategically engaging in the races that have the possibility to make a big impact in the legislature. We are proud to support this slate of candidates who, when elected, will support policies that will transform South Carolina’s economic landscape and unleash freedom.”

Endorsed Candidates

Everett Stubbs SD-17 

In office, Everett Stubbs will be a bold leader on education. Everett’s passion for creating an education system that revolves around choice and flexibility for parents and learners will be shown through his work. AFP-SC looks forward to working with him to pursue education reforms that empower parents and students to choose schools that best fit their needs.

James Daniel “JD” Chaplin SD-29 

From tax to education reform, “JD” Chaplin will be a valuable addition to the legislature. With educators in his family, he understands the benefits of education reform and will bring a unique voice through his personal experience to policies. Further, JD will drive AFP-SC’s vision to cut taxes and unleash economic prosperity in the state.

State Sen. Danny Verdin SD-09 

As Chair of the Senate Medical Affairs Committee, Senator Verdin has been a key partner for AFP-SC on major health care reforms. Instrumental in the fight to repeal onerous Certificate of Need (CoN) regulations, Sen. Verdin is expected to continue championing reforms that prioritize giving patients greater access to health care across the state.

State Rep. David Vaughan HD-27 

Upon entering the Statehouse, Rep. Vaughan has been an aligned partner with AFP-SC in cutting red tape and unleashing greater patient access to health care. Rep. Vaughan is a leader in the Statehouse, educating his peers on the necessity to reform education in the state by making the program universal.

State Rep. Heath Sessions HD-46

Rep. Sessions is a proven leader on key issues such as education and health care. He was a key driver in CoN repeal while also championing education freedom and working on bills pertaining to deregulation and stopping leftist government policies such as Environmental Social and Governance scoring.

State Rep. Sylleste Davis HD-100

Rep. Davis helped lead the charge on CoN repeal and is an influential voice towards expanding educational opportunities to a universal program. She will continue to be a champion for providing greater access to health care and educational options if re-elected.

James Teeple HD-116  

Focused on reforming South Carolina’s tax code, James Teeple is likely to be a leading voice on eliminating the state income tax and giving hardworking South Carolinian’s back more of their money. And, as someone who worked in the childcare sector, he knows education programs must be expanded to a universal program to enhance parent’s rights in the state.

State Rep. Shannon Erickson HD-124 

As Chairlady of the House Education Committee, Rep. Erickson was known to be the “driving force behind education freedom wins in South Carolina.” If re-elected, Rep. Erickson will continue to champion education freedom, putting South Carolina students and families first.
