AFP Conducts Capitol Fly-In to Urge Congress to Prevent a Looming Historic Tax Hike

Oct 1, 2024 by AFP

ARLINGTON, VA— Last week, 70 AFP grassroots leaders from across the country arrived on Capitol Hill to talk to members of Congress about the imminent expiration of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). These leaders conducted 230 meetings—including 140 member-level meetings—as part of the AFP Capitol Conference fly-in, highlighting the looming risk of a historic tax hike if the TCJA is allowed to expire

The AFP Capitol Conference fly-in last week comes on the heels of recently released polling conducted by Public Opinion Strategies showing that more than three-quarters of Americans say that now is a bad time to increase taxes. The poll finds that 90% of Americans oppose tax hikes and want to keep their current rates, and a majority of Americans say that failing to renew the 2017 tax cuts would hurt middle class families, small businesses, American consumers, and the economy.

In response to Capitol Conference, many members of Congress expressed their support for AFP’s work and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Americans from lofty tax hikes. How Congress approaches looming fiscal deadlines in 2025 will impact the economic health of the nation, either by promoting economic growth or saddling Americans with higher taxes and economic stagnation.
