Female Patient Being Reassured By Doctor In Hospital Room

Washington Examiner endorses AFP’s Personal Option for health care

In a March 13 editorial, the Washington Examiner focused on a handful of policy solutions that can alleviate some of the biggest challenges facing America’s healthcare system.

“The offered solutions vary, but most could be part of a ‘Personal Option’ — reforms that would put patients back in control of their care and coverage,” wrote the Examiner. “Patients, not insurance companies or government bureaucrats, should have the power to choose the doctors they see and the insurance plans that fit their financial needs.”

Detangling health insurance from employment and expanding access to health savings accounts were two of the reforms that the Examiner highlighted in the piece.

“The best part of the reforms proposed in the Washington Examiner series is that none requires more government involvement in the system. Indeed, most would require the government to step away from the system and remove burdensome regulations, which stifle innovation and slow down care.”

Recent polling data released by Americans for Prosperity shows that most voters agree with that approach. 71% say the best way to reduce health care costs is to give Americans more choice and control over their own health care, while just 29% say increasing government control and subsidies is the better solution.
