Lawsuits Hurt Kids

What is the lawsuit?

Ohio offers a number of scholarships which benefit kids on the autism spectrum, kids with special needs, kids living in underperforming school districts, and kids living in poverty.

The scholarships take a small portion of per-pupil state funds that normally follow kids to their public school district, and instead follow kids to a different school chosen by their parents.

When a kid leaves a public school, the actual net effect is that the public school has MORE per-pupil dollars, since all the local dollars stay in place and now there is one less kid to teach.

In spite of this, a number of public school districts are SUING YOU AND ME – the people of Ohio – so they can shut down some of these scholarships.

They are also SUING YOU AND ME to limit parents’ rights and parents’ choices.

What happens if they win?

First, some of the kids receiving scholarships today will be denied this support.

Second, their parents will have their rights cut back.

Third, the school boards will be emboldened to limit other rights of parents like clear communication, transparency, the right to speak at board meetings, the right to be involved in their kids’ education – because we have already seen this happen across the country!

What can you do?

Call your school board president and ask him or her to TAKE BACK THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE LAWSUIT.
