MONTGOMERY, AL–After Governor Kay Ivey addressed Alabama’s legislature this evening, Americans for Prosperity-Alabama (AFP-AL) applauded her commitment to education freedom and called upon state legislators to make universal school choice a top priority this year.

Passage of Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) in Alabama would expand options for families to find the best educational plan that fits the needs of each unique student.

AFP-AL State Director, Adam Thompson, released the following statement:

“Seeking out the best education for your child can be a daunting task filled with barriers and frustrations, thankfully Alabama has committed leaders such as Governor Ivey and others in the legislature who put the needs of families first.

“Every student learns differently, and ESAs can provide all students and families with the flexibility to meet their specific educational needs. That’s why we’re thrilled to hear that education reform will be prioritized this session. We look forward to working with the legislature and Governor Ivey to make sure Alabama’s students are on track for a brighter future.”

In an op-ed published in the Alabama Daily News, Thompson explained that ESAs are not an attack on public education, but a way to empower parents and students to choose the best options for them.

AFP-AL will work alongside legislators to enact commonsense reforms to education while also addressing issues such as the economy and healthcare.
