AFP-WV Key Vote Alert: Support HB 4111, full scope of practice for Advance Practice Registered Nurses

Jan 28, 2022 by AFP

On behalf of thousands of Americans for Prosperity activists across West Virginia, I urge you to support on House Bill 4111, relating to the prescriptive authority of advance practice registered nurses. This vote may be recorded in our 2022 session legislative scorecard.

HB 4111 will make the prescribing Executive Orders issued by Governor Justice permanent for advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) and physician assistants (PA).

Empowering health care providers to deliver medical care within the full scope of their training is a crucial element of a comprehensive health care system and will improve patient access to high-quality health care. Current law limits these highly skilled providers from providing the care they are trained for, and we must immediately remove these government-imposed barriers from these vital members of our health care teams.

Now more than ever, it’s essential that health care providers have enough capacity to deliver care to patients in need.  In the past two years we’ve seen 19 states, including West Virginia, temporarily expand prescribing authority for APRNs and PAs in some way to meet the increased demand caused by COVID-19.  Making these expansions permanent would not only ensure that West Virginians can get the health care they need post-pandemic – it will also help providers prepare for the next crises.

It is for these reasons we respectfully ask you to support on HB 4111, Relating to the prescriptive authority of advance practice registered nurses.
