AFP-NJ Responds to CRDA’s Miss America Decision

Trenton, NJ – Americans for Prosperity-New Jersey (AFP-NJ) on Friday responded to the Atlantic City Casino Reinvestment Development Authority’s (CRDA) decision to allocate more than $4 million in taxpayer money to prop-up the Miss America pageant.

“While the Miss America pageant is a celebration of intelligence and beauty, the CRDA’s decision to subsidize the pageant is just a bad look,” said AFP-NJ State Director Erica Jedynak. “Surely the CRDA could find a better use for $4 million that would benefit everyone instead of a narrow special interest. Residents here have some of the highest property taxes in the nation and the state’s pension crisis liability comes out to $27,806 for every taxpayer. Moreover, New Jersey was recently recognized as the state with the 5th worst economic outlook, and decisions like this – which amount to corporate welfare – are why New Jerseyans are skeptical about their economic future.”
