May 15, 2023 by AFP

“As we continue to reignite the American Dream in the Mountain State, we need to ensure lawmakers are passing commonsense policies that expand freedom and opportunity for all.”

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Americans for Prosperity – West Virginia (AFP-WV) today released its 2023 Legislative Key Vote Scorecard. The group’s annual scorecard lists how each lawmaker voted on some of the most important issues the past legislative regular session. The organization has been conducting a scorecard since 2019 to provide transparency for West Virginians on how their lawmakers vote.

“As we continue to reignite the American Dream in the Mountain State, we need to ensure lawmakers are passing commonsense policies that expand freedom and opportunity for all,” said State Director Jason Huffman. “It is clear that many principled policymakers share our priorities and worked vigilantly this session to make West Virginia a better place to live, work, and raise a family. We look forward to highlighting our policy champions’ work and thanking them for standing up for commonsense reforms.”

The scorecard was based on the following six bills:

  • The largest income tax cut in the history of the state (H.B. 2526)
  • The gold standard of public school open enrollment bills (H.B. 2596)
  • A partial repeal of the CON Laws (S.B. 613)
  • Creating The Student Press Freedom Act (S.B. 121)
  • Expanded authority for certified registered nurse anesthetists (H.B. 2613)
  • A reform to probation and parole (H.B. 3445)
